My father was a partisan, shot in the post-war years. His mother worked as a dishwasher in a restaurant, later became the head of the Kaunas Metropolis restaurant and the Palanga Vasaros restaurant.
While studying at the Kaunas 1st Secondary School, he played the trombone in the students' brass band. Member of the Lithuanian cycling team. He was admitted to Kaunas Polytechnic Institute, but after a couple of courses he was expelled. During his service in the Soviet army he also occasionally played in the military brass band.
In 1956 he started to play in the Kaunas City Youth Brass Band (leader Juozas Tiškus). In 1958-1963 he studied part-time at the LSSR Conservatoire (trombone class of D. Svirskis), graduating with honours. 1959-1960 m. Music teacher at Kaunas 8th secondary school. 1960-1974 Chairman of the Methodical Commission of the Wind Instruments Department of the J. Gruodis Higher School in Kaunas. 1964-1974 artistic director and conductor of the model stage orchestra "Oktava" at the Kaunas Artificial Fibre Factory.
1974-1975 lecturer at the J. Tallat-Kelpša Higher School of Music in Vilnius. 1975-1977 Artistic Director of the Estraditional Music Department of the LSSR Philharmonic. 1977-1983 Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the State Wind Orchestra "Trumpet", since 1983 Head of the Orchestra's Entertainment Music Ensemble. Artistic director of the "Oktava" (concert ensemble of the LSSR Philharmonic) in 1986-1990.
He gave about 1000 concerts with orchestras and ensembles in Lithuania, the republics of the former Soviet Union and many other countries. As a specialist in stage music, he advised the Lao State Orchestra for three months in 1987 and 1988. He was the chief conductor of the 1980 Republican Song Festival in Vilnius, a consultant to many orchestras and ensembles, a member of the jury of Lithuanian and international competitions, and trained many well-known stage singers.
In 1980 he was awarded the honorary title of Merited Artist. Since 1996 member of the Lithuanian Composers' Union, since 1996 Chairman of the Revision Commission of this Union.
