Modestas Pitrėnas studied choral, operatic, and symphonic conducting with professors Lionginas Abarius and Juozas Domarkas at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. He further trained in the classes of professors Walter Hagen-Groll and Karl Kamper at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. M. Pitrėnas participated in seminars and masterclasses with renowned conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Jorma Panula, Helmuth Rilling, and many others. He founded the choir "Psalmos," which he conducted from 1990 until 2000, touring Europe and the United States, winning numerous awards in international choir competitions and festivals. Modestas Pitrėnas received awards in conducting competitions and worked with various orchestras in Europe and the United States, including the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. He also taught and conducted at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the St. Joseph Seminary in Vilnius and was associated with the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. M. Pitrėnas has recorded over 15 compact discs of choral and symphonic music.
