He works in a variety of media, including fibre art, installations and objects. The author is a member of many art organisations: the Latvian Artists' Union, ALMA/USA, FITMA/Taiwan and others. Since 1972 he has been actively participating in exhibitions in Latvia and abroad, holding solo exhibitions, participating in international competitive exhibitions, conferences and symposia. In his creative explorations, Sidars has long transcended the boundaries of traditional textiles and has presented himself in unexpected art forms, using different creative expressions. He combines them professionally to form powerful and apt messages that convey the author's message. His main goal is to break down the boundaries between different forms of visual art, to break traditions and discover new forms of expression. The author has received significant international accolades and awards: at the International Textile Biennale in Lausanne, Switzerland (1993), at the exhibition "Textiles and New Technologies" in London, UK (1995), at the International Biennial of Fiber Art "Lausanne to Beijing" in China (2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012), at the exhibition "Artists at work, New Technology in Textile and Fiber Art" in the Textile Museum in Prato, Italy (2003), and others. His works are held in the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Latvian Artists' Union, other museums and private collections in Latvia and abroad.
