Pierre Vallet was born in Paris. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and the École Normale de Musique before perfecting his skills under Sergiú Celibidache in Munich (orchestral direction), Louis Hilbrandt in Geneva and Peter Feuchtwanger in London (piano). Having begun his musical career as a pianist and a chamber musician, he has regularly accompanied such renowned singers as Denyce Graves, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Maria Guleghina, Natalie Dessay, Roberto Alagna and Joyce DiDonato (most notably for the recording of her album Stella di Napoli). He devotes a considerable amount of his time teaching young singers and vocal coaches and he regularly give masterclasses for the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, the Ravinia Festival, the Tanglewood Music Center, the Wolf Trap Opera, the Opera Studio of the Houston Grand Opera and the Hong Kong Opera. He collaborates regularly with Seiji Ozawa, having worked as his assistant on some forty opera and concert productions. He makes regular guest appearances at the New York Metropolitan Opera as a pianist, a vocal coach and a musical director, conducting Madame Butterfly and Faust among others. He has conducted Tannhäuser and Carmen at the Paris Opera, Carmen and Samson et Dalila at the Dallas Opera, Orphée et Eurydice at the Saint Louis Opera, Don Carlo in Vilnius, La Juive in Gothenburg, Faust at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Eugene Onegin, Tannhäuser and Otello at the Tokyo Opera Nomori, L’Enfant et les sortilèges at the Manhattan School of Music, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Hansel und Gretel at the Saito Kinen Festival, Bluebeard’s Castle in Shanghai and Beijing, Madame Butterfly at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Massenet’s Manon at the Bolshoi Theatre, and Don Carlo at the Vilnius Opera. Pierre Vallet also performs in concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, the Royal Camerata Orchestra of Budapest, the Filarmonica Brasov in Romania, the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, the National Philharmonic of Chisinau (Moldavia), and the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in the USA.
