is an Italian conductor and musician, artistic director of the Giovine Orchestra Genovese and of the "Gian Battista Viotti" International Music Competition in Vercelli.Born in Milan, Pietro Borgonovo studied at the Freiburg Musikhochschule with Heinz Holliger, becoming, at a very young age, one of the leading oboe soloists at an international level.
Since 2000 he has been artistic director of the Giovine Orchestra Genovese, succeeding Aldo Bennici. He plays the same role at the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition in Vercelli
He has conducted symphonic works and opera productions for the Teatro alla Scala, the Salzburg Festival, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Venice Biennale, the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Great Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan, the Savona Symphony Orchestra[5][6], the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional of Buenos Aires, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and the Prague Philharmonia.
Borgonovo has collaborated with artists such as George Benjamin, Luciano Berio, Azio Corghi, Franco Donatoni, Salvatore Sciarrino, Fabio Vacchi and Iannis 1998.
