I was born in Barcelona with a pencil in my hand, or so my mother used to say.
I would draw or paint anything that came in front of me. I read every comic book
I could get my hands on. I devoured Looney Tunes; my favorite was Road Runner (poor Coyote…). After graduating in Fine Arts, I spent many years working in various fields, such as photography, muralism, pedagogy, or advertising, which kept me away from pencils for over 12 years.
Finally, in 2011, by chance, I stumbled into editorial illustration. I furthered my training with specific workshops led by Ignasi Blanch and Roger Olmos. In 2014, I started sharing my stories through «Cara de pájaro,» my debut illustrated album as a full-fledged author.
I create books about children because I am fascinated by their inner universe.I speak their language, to reflect the world as they see it, with innocence, free from prejudice, and above all, with a lot of humor! When working on a new story, I need to have fun and feel moved, otherwise, it doesn’t work for me. I believe my background heavily influences my approach to illustration and storytelling.
My quirks? Drawing pastries, and birds, dressing characters in striped shirts, and make them wear Converse shoes. Listening to Billie Holliday or Chet Baker while I work. Ah! And I am an unconditional fan of Star Wars iconography.
To this day, I have published over fifty books, which have won several awards and have been translated into more than thirty languages worldwide. I have three children who are my biggest critics, my biggest fans, and an endless source of inspiration because reality always surpasses fiction.
I never tire of writing and illustrating stories. If I were an animal, I would be a budgerigar
