The Swiss pianist Simon Bucher is an internationally sought-after soloist, improviser, chamber musician and song accompanist. Engagements have taken him to the Center Pompidou Paris, KKL Luzern, Tonhalle Zurich, Stadttheater Bern, MoMA New York, Art Institute Chicago and to music festivals such as the Budapest Spring Festival, Ruhr Piano Festival, Carinthian Summer, Nargen Festival, Murten Classics or the GAIA Music Festival .
His piano playing is well received by the press and the public. "The drive of the pianist Simon Bucher, but also his sensitive playing as an accompanist and his exquisite rendition of the Prélude religieux were decisive for the success of the concert" (Gramophone).
After studying at the HKB with Erika Radermacher and Tomasz Herbut, he completed his training in master classes with Ruben Lifschitz, Klaus Hellwig and Irwin Gage.
The multiple award-winning musician is a prizewinner of the 10th International Johannes Brahms Competition and the Swiss Association of Musicians. Simon Bucher was invited as a speaker at the international TEDx event, is the artistic director of the concert series "Das Lied - Liedrezitale Bern" and was a lecturer at the Bern University of the Arts.
As a soloist he works with conductors such as Daniel Klajner, Tonu Kaljuste, Michael Sanderling and Kaspar Zehnder.
His wide-ranging interest in the most diverse musical genres is reflected in his versatile chamber music formations, his collaborations with dancers, VJs and in his improvised solo recitals. Together with the mezzo-soprano Stephanie Szanto he founded the duo "The High Horse". In November 2019 their critically acclaimed first album Best of Worst Vol. 1 was released. Together with pianist Mischa Cheung he developed and played the music for two dance performances by choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art New York (2016) and of the Art Institute of Chicago (2019).
A large number of his concerts have been broadcast on radio and television (SWR, ORF, Espace 2, SRF, DRS 2). Various CDs were produced by ARS Production, Orchid Classics and Carus.
