Steponas Januška was born on March 18, 1958 in Tytuvėnai, Kelmė district. He studied at the Stasys Šimkus Conservatory in Klaipėda, specializing in clarinet from 1974-1978. He then studied at the Vilnius Conservatory, the Klaipėda Faculty of Pop Music and Jazz (now the Jazz Department of LMTA Klaipėda Faculty) from 1978-1982. Steponas Januška founded the music group "Studija" with his friends in 1978, where he still sings to this day. He was also a member of pianist Saulius Šiaučiulis' jazz quartet from 1979-1992. Currently, he is a vocal instructor and associate professor at the Jazz Music Department of LMTA Klaipėda Faculty since 1997. He was also the founder and organizer of the international jazz vocalist contest "Jazz Voices" from 2002-2015. Steponas Januška was also the President of the Klaipėda Memelio Jazz Club from 2011-2013 and a member of evaluation commissions at international jazz vocalist competitions such as "Lady Summertime" (Finland), "Nomme Jazz" (Estonia), and "Riga Jazz Stage" (Latvia).
