Born in 1980 in Grenoble, Sylvain Charrier began his musical practice with classical percussion, then musical writing, arrangement and jazz.
He studied and obtained awards at the conservatories of Grenoble, Toulouse, Massy and Chambéry, and this student career allowed him to work with personalities such as François Luzignant, Jean-Luc Rimey-Meille, Fabrice Marandola, Franck Tortiller and Pierre Drevet. He also graduated from the Faculty of Musicology of Grenoble.
Composer, arranger, jazz vibraphonist, percussionist, this musician with multiple know-how has been able to develop his musical universe through his meetings and collaborations (Collectif Pince-Oreilles, Seb Necca Quartet, Graounded, Grenoble Modern Orchestra, Pierre Drevet, Karim Maurice, Franck Tortiller...) and more personal projects (Djinn’ If jazz is now his field of choice, like many others, it draws its influences from classical music, rock, ... but also from literary or political essays.
With degrees in jazz and percussion, he has taught in several conservatories in the Grenoble metropolitan area.
In 2011, he was noted as a soloist in the national competition of brass bands in Amiens, then by the magazines "jazzmagazine,jazzman" and "citizen jazz" on the occasion of the release of the album "look inside" of the Seb Necca Quartet.
As a composer, he wrote plays created by internationally renowned artists and several major professional ensembles (Grenoble Modern Orchestra, E-MCU).
His album in large ensemble "Viva la revoluçion?" is noted by critics in France (Citizen jazz) as well as abroad where, for example, the national public radio station of Brazil devotes an entire program to him.
In 2016, the festival "Tapages" in partnership with the festival "Avaulxjazz" commissioned him "From Near and From afar" a piece in 4 movements for 50 musicians that will be created at the end of the festival.
In 2017 he composed "Fantastica Matheysine" - order of the community of communes of Matheysine with the support of the Ministry of Culture (DRAC Rhone-Alpes) - a musical grouping together nearly 250 artists.
In 2018 he collaborated as an arranger with David Linx (2011 Jazz Victory) for a tribute to Claude Nougaro in Big Band.
A composer and arranger of many pieces with a pedagogical vocation, he wrote in partnership with the music publisher BPME.
As a classical percussionist, he regularly collaborated with the various orchestras of the Fabrique Opéra Grenoble.
