Thorsten Schmid-Kapfenburg was born in 1967 and grew up in Hamburg. From 1983 to 1989 he received lessons in theory and composition from Detlev Glanert. During this time he composed various chamber music, including the chamber opera "Hadaly" for the "Junge Forum Musiktheater" in Hamburg. Since 1986 he has completed a conducting studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg with Prof. Klauspeter Seibel, which he graduated in 1993 with a diploma. Between 1991 and 2000 he was employed on the stages of the state capital Kiel as a solo repeist door, Kapellmeister and assistant to the general music director. Here he worked as musical director of the production "Freyer and Toscannini proben Traviata". From 2000 to 2004 he was appointed solo repepatrior and assistant to Christian Thielemann at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. During this time he also received a teaching assignment for conducting at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Since the 2004/2005 season, Thorsten Schmid-Kapfenburg has been the 2nd edition of the season. Kapellmeister engaged at the Municipal Stages Münster. At the same time, he has also been chief conductor of the Alte Philharmonie Münster since 2007. In addition to symphonic music, his repertoire includes operas from Mozart, Wagner, Puccini, Verdi and Strauss to works of modernism by Henze, Messiaen and Rihm, among others.
