Vilimas Norkūnas was fascinated by the performance of early music in Salzburg (Austria) in 2002 when he was studying concert organ and sacred music specialties at the Mozarteum University in Professor Heribert Metzger's class. There, he learned to play harpsichord, clavichord, and harpsichord, as well as studying basso continuo. In 2006, Vilimas Norkūnas won first place in the J. Žukas Young Organist Competition. From 2008, he continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where he obtained a Master's degree in sacred music and organ performance in Professor Ulrich Walther's organ class in 2011, and a Master's degree in choral conducting in Professor Johannes Prince's class in 2012. In 2014, he completed his studies in harpsichord with honors in Professor Michael Hell's class, with special emphasis on basso continuo and chamber music.
V. Norkūnas has performed with the Styrian Baroque Orchestra "Neue Hofkapelle Graz" (Austria), at the international early music festival in Lyon (France), and toured with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (2009, European tour) and the St. Christopher Orchestra, performing with the "Jauna muzika", "Brevis", and "Aukuras" choirs, at various ensembles. He has also held several concert series with baroque violin virtuoso Ūla Kinderytė (USA). Vilimas Norkūnas is also a co-founder and member of the early music ensemble Chiaroscuro. The ensemble performed at the international "Banchetto musicale 2015 festival", traveled around Lithuania with the theatrical music program "Affetti musicale" and presented a program dedicated to C. Ph. Emmanuel Bach's 300th birthday in 2014. In the summer of 2015, they performed at the Salzburg Festival with the program "Rosa das Rosas". In 2016, Vilimas, together with the "Ignis" ensemble, prepared an artistic program "Canones nonnulli" at the international "Marko Skacio festival" in Italy. Since 2016, he has been performing with the early music ensemble "Duo Commovendo" in Lithuania, Italy, and Austria, where he plays with the Austrian baroque violin virtuoso Vera Otasek.
Vilimas Norkūnas organizes annual St. Casimir's educational festivals and masterclasses in early music, as well as being the art director of the Biržai Baroque Spring and leading seminars in Lithuania and Austria.
