Graduated from Vilnius University (Lithuanian language and literature) in 1966. 1965-66 worked as a teacher at Poškoniai School (Šalčininkai county), 1966-67 - at Rūdiškės Secondary School (Trakai county), 1972-84 - at the Main Encyclopaedia, 1984-96 - at the editors of the magazine Our Nature, 1997 - at the weekly Dialogas, and at the magazine Mokykla.1997-2009 - at the Lithuanian Institute of Literature and Folklore.
