Lithuanian artist, monumentalist painter, honorary citizen of Šiauliai.
Brother Raimondas Juozas Trušys. His father was a surveyor. His childhood and first school years were spent in Pušalot. He lived in Kuršėnai, studied at Garliava secondary school, graduated from Pušalotas secondary school. From 1955 to 1961 he studied at the Art Institute of the LSSR. Since 1961 lecturer, associate professor, professor at Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute, 1965-1974 head of the Drawing Department, later head of the Art Didactics Department. Since 1964 member of the Lithuanian Artists' Union. Since 2006 retired.
His paintings and watercolours have been exhibited in many foreign countries. He held individual exhibitions in Šiauliai (1967, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1986), Vilnius (1968, 1975), Daugavpils (1967). He created frescoes ("History of Medicine", 1973; "Bison Hunt", 1974), mosaics ("From Lithuanian Mythology" at Vilnius University, 1978; "Tree of Life" at Šiauliai Hospital, 1982; "Jovaras", 1964; "Peliksas Bugaililiškis", "Ignas Prielgauskas", both in 1980), easel paintings, watercolours and drawings.
The Lithuanian Art Museum has works such as "Mother" (1966), "Still Life with a Clock" (1968), "Autumn at Plateliai" (1978), "Autobiography" (1987), etc. The artist's monumental mosaics can be found in the Drama Theatre, Šiauliai College, Šiauliai University and elsewhere. Unfortunately, some of Trušys' works have been destroyed during various reconstructions.
The artist created many portraits, landscapes, historical paintings in watercolour, pastel, pencil, oil, collage, fresco, sgraffito and mosaic techniques. The professor has also published a book of poetry. He created the Šiauliai Art Centre, organised the first public exhibitions of children's art, which spread throughout the country. His pedagogical and creative activities have been recognised with many awards, and he was awarded the 1979 State Prize at Vilnius University for his mosaic "From Lithuanian Mythology". A monograph on Trušis was published in 1979.
