Aušra Griškonytė (Volunge) is one of the few authors in Lithuania who analyses the issue of gender identity in her art. Griškonytė stands out from other Lithuanian artists who have dealt with this topic in separate series, such as Ugnius Gelguda or Akvilė Anglickaitė, because of her long-term development of the theme of gender identity in her many works. Moreover, her works are characterised by an "inside look" into the lives of those who do not conform to the traditional notion of gender identity, which gives her works a personal and authentic quality that often becomes the basis for creative success in the context of contemporary art. Although a large part of Griškonytė's work consists of photographs, it would be more accurate to describe her not as a photographer, but as an artist using photography. For her, photography is not a way to pursue aesthetic or artistic goals, but a tool that allows her to explore the close social environment, the relationships between people and the changing identities of individuals within it. In addition, Griškonytė combines photography with other art forms in some of her creative projects. In particular, installation art. The author presents her photographs in an unconventional way, and the relationship of the image to both the specific space of the exhibition and the material plane on which it is printed is important to her. This gives some of Griškonytė's works an interdisciplinary artistic tinge, not only in terms of form, but also in terms of content and communication with the viewer.
