Vytautas Pilibavičius (born in 1961 in Šiauliai) is a trombonist and composer. He graduated from Šiauliai High School of Music and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA), where he completed classes in trombone, conducting wind orchestra, and composition. He also trained at the Cologne Conservatory.
From 1982 to 1996, he worked in the jazz department of the B. Dvarionas Music School and played in various ensembles. In 1995, he founded the contemporary music ensemble "Ex tempore". He has also played and performed with various artists such as Asmik Grigorian, Vladimir Tarasov, Markus Stockhausen, and the Lithuanian Art Orchestra.
He has written compositions for Lithuanian composers such as O. Balakauskas, A. Martinaitis, V. Laurušas, Š. Nakas, S. Dikčiūtė, and R. Merkelys, and has released several albums, including "Frontiers" (1995). His work also includes arrangements for wind ensembles, orchestras, and vocalists.
He has conducted the Šiauliai City Wind Orchestra and has taught at the Vilnius and Šiauliai Conservatories and Šiauliai University. He is the initiator, participant, composer, and arranger of various jazz, contemporary, and sacred music projects.
His compositions are heard at international jazz festivals and recorded on various albums, and his composition "Trombonų funky" was performed at the 2018 Lithuanian Centennial Song Festival. He has also launched the "Lithuanian Trombone Project", and concerts are being organized in Lithuania and abroad.
His work combines folk song poetry, winding melodies, and modern jazz and contemporary music harmony. Vytautas Pilibavičius is an important Lithuanian music composer who actively expresses himself as a composer and performer.
