Biography
Yuri Povolotsky was born in Odessa (Ukraine) in 1962. In 1986 he graduated from the Gnesin Russian Music Academy in Moscow with a degree in composition. He has lived in Israel since 1991 and he is a member of the Israel Composers' League. He is a composer of symphonic and chamber music in various styles, and his works have been performed and broadcast all over the world. In recent years he created pieces connected with Jewish themes and folklore. He was the artistic and musical director of the jazz-klezmer band "Apropos.art." Povolotsky has participated in Jewish music festivals in Russia, Israel, Holland, and Poland. He has won prizes at the International Competition of Ethnic Music in Tel Aviv (2000) and at the International Festival "Sharq Taronalari" in Samarkand/Uzbekistan (2003).
