Monika Žaltauskaitė-Grašienė ŽALTĖ, artist, lecturer, exhibition organiser and creator. Monika graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where she obtained a Master's degree in Textiles and a Licentiate in Art. She also studied at the Esmod School in Paris (France), Bergen Academy of Art (Norway), participated in many workshops, symposiums and conferences in Florence (Italy), Izmir (Turkey), Tehran (Iran), Bergen (Norway), London, Manchester, Fanhram (UK), Tallinn (Estonia), Cork (Ireland), Paris (Prnacussion), and others.
Since 2011 she has been a member of the Kaunas Biennial Board and a creator. She has been described as a "textile architect" and a "master of computer jacquard weaving". She creates meaningful visual narratives, touching upon sensitive themes of the present and memory, and could therefore be described as a philosophising artist/master who has creatively gone beyond textile art. She uses various materials, means of expression, media (photography, sound) and creates impressive installations. She actively organises solo exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, participates in interdisciplinary projects. Her works have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world: in Poland, Estonia, France, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Great Britain, USA, India, China, Japan, etc. The artist has received numerous local and international awards: for the best installation of the year 'Stack' (2010), diplomas for 'Pričioska' (2007), 'Generations' (2009), 'Breathing' (2010), 'Birth' (2011), 'Carpet of Pixels' (2013), 'Rivers of Blood' (2020), and for her work 'The River of Blood' (2013).), was awarded the Lithuanian Artists' Union's Golden Muse Award for her work on the theme of emigration, 'Good Luck' (2018), was awarded the Silver Medal at the International Riga Triennial, and was awarded the most recent First Class Special Diploma at the Biennial of Textiles, Portugal, for her work 'Connections' (2020).
