In 1999, on the initiative of the director of the school, Laimutė Užkuraitienė, the student symphony orchestra of the Vilnius Balis Dvarionas ten-year music school was founded. The first artistic director and conductor of the orchestra was Ugnius Vaiginis. Since 2001 conductor Modestras Pitrėnas took charge of the orchestra. This group has already organized over fifty concerts in the most famous concert halls of Lithuania. The performances of this collective on the stages of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater and the Palace of Congresses, participation in various musical projects together with other school and professional musical groups of the republic, international projects, concert tours in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic have received a wide response.Under the guidance of Modestos Pitrėnas, winner of the gold medal and Grand Prix of the international G. Fittelberg Conducting Competition, and with the help of pedagogues Tatjana Kuc, Artūrs Alenskas, Vilias Pociaus, Edgars Kričena, Arvydas Barzinskis and Dalias Jovaiša, the young artists of the orchestra have prepared endless concert programs, which include classical masterpieces, works by both contemporary Lithuanian and foreign composers. The orchestra's repertoire includes works by G. Bizet, G. Verdi, J. Haydn, C. Saint-Saens, M. Ravel, E. Gryg, L. A. Minkus, J. Offenbach, E. Grieg, S Prokofiev, P. Tchaikovsky, A. Borodin, M. K. Čiurlionis, B. Dvarion, E. Balsi, J. Andreev, J. Strauss, P. Mascagni, H. Grosse-Schware, A. Rodrigo, L. Anderson' Oh, Fr. Mercury and many other composers, most of which have been recorded on the orchestra's CD.The orchestra is a participant of the 4th and 6th International Festival of Young Musicians "Skambanti Banga", projects organized by the Lithuanian Musician Support Fund, and "Great Parades of Lithuanian Musicians" of the Lithuanian Musician's Union. The most famous Lithuanian opera stars, soloists, instrumentalists, and conductors often perform with the young artists. One cannot fail to remember the concerts in which V. Noreika, V. Prudnikovas, E. Kaniava, I. Zelenkauskaitė, R. Tallat-Kelpšaitė, N. Vilkanauskaitė, R. Juzukonytė, R. Šilinskaitė, A. Rubežius, Č. sang with the orchestra. Nausėda, griekė M. Švėgžda von Bekkeris, Fabian Fresen (Germany), Š. Kačionas, R. Beinaris, A. Dvarionaitė, prof. S. Sondeckis, prof. J. Domarkas, V. Viržonis, M. Staškus, V. Lukočius, Chr. Malescov (Germany). The open rehearsal-concert of B. Dvarion's DMM schoolchildren's symphony orchestra with the participation of the famous maestro Mstislav Rostropovich (March 1, 2005) left indelible impressions on both the orchestra members and the listeners. The performances of school soloists and orchestra artists themselves with the orchestra become a big celebration.Every summer, the orchestra, which calls itself the cheerful name "Simfukų", organizes creative summer camps on the coast of Lithuania, where they not only rest together, but also rehearse, prepare new concert programs, and perform in Žemaitia.Currently, over 80 students of various ages play music in the orchestra. In September 2007, a bold but vitally necessary step was taken. The collective, having announced the admission of new members, has renewed itself. A large group of younger colleagues joined the ranks of already experienced "Simfuks", whose arrival, perhaps, somewhat adjusted the orchestra's possibilities in choosing the repertoire, but in no way stopped ambitious ambitions and aspirations.
