Hugo Ticciati, a violin virtuoso of extraordinary creativity, returns to Lithuania. Violinist and conductor Hugo Ticciati is an extraordinarily creative and versatile personality. He is passionate about world premieres of new works, exploring non-European musical cultures as a performer, and creating innovative programmes combining early and new music for his own project O/Modernt. Mixing the new and the old in unexpected ways, O/Modernt, under Ticciati's direction, transcends the boundaries of time and cultures and focuses on the artistic links between contemporary and past cultures. Hugo Ticciati has adopted John Cage's motto as his motto for himself and for this project: 'Creating the past. Invent the past. Revise the future."
Hugo Ticciati's performances, concert programmes and festivals are characterised by a "unique twist", a certain original idea. John Gilhooly, Director of London's famous Wigmore Hall, has called Ticciati one of the most talented conductors and artistic directors of the younger generation he has met: "By combining works from different eras and themes, he gives audiences unexpected and joyful experiences. Hugo Ticciati performs all over the world, collaborating with top orchestras such as Kremerata Baltica, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. Other recent appearances include the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Tapiola Sinfonietta. Hugo gives masterclasses and lectures in Scandinavia and abroad. As a promoter of valuable music, he performs extensively with the ensemble O/Modernt Soloists, a group of the youngest generation of performers of the highest excellence, which he founded and directs. With O/Modernt, Hugo Ticciati won the 2020 Gramophone Concept Album Award for his disc From the Ground Up: The Chaconne on the British label Signum Classics.
The repertoire of violin virtuoso Hugo Ticciati includes the most important violin concertos of the past and present, among which he singles out composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Philip Glass, John Adams, Witold Lutoslawski and Krzysztof Penderecki. Peter Vask, Dobrinka Tabakova, Erkki-Sven Tüür and others have dedicated their new works to the composer.
