I am the body.
I am a body image captured waiting for the image in my head to match the one you see on camera.
I am made by your gaze.
I am beyond your sight.
I am a ghost playing the part she assigned me.
I am a young woman.
I am an old woman.
I am a woman.
I am a myth.
I look at myself and see another.
Performance "Looking at each other" - directors of the young generation, 2023. The work initiated by Eglė Švedkauskaitė, laureate of the "Golden Stage Cross", explores the perspective of a woman in the field of stage and visual art and the never-ending process of self-legitimization. Four personalities meet here: Eglė Gabrėnaitė, Elžbieta Latėnaitė, Justina Mykolaitytė and Veronika Šleivytė (1904-1998). The presence of the latter, like a fog, lingers between the multiplying images filmed live and the words spoken and sung by the performers.
"Researching Veronika Šleivytė's biography and work gave us the impulse to get to know our changing and flowing identities, to look at our own images, looking for a relationship with us, and ours with them; documenting yourself and asking if it is enough. In your presence, we embark on a completely open path of self-knowledge."
