On 15 October, the Kaunas Philharmonic will host the concert of the world-famous accordion virtuoso Radu Ratoi from Moldova. Praised for his originality, versatility and virtuosity in classical and contemporary repertoire, this accordionist has won all the most important awards in the world of accordion. In 2022, he was awarded one of the most important art awards of the Republic of Moldova, the Master of Masters, for his outstanding achievements.
R. Ratoi, whose musical journey began at the age of just six, has become an international accordion phenomenon. During his studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (2018-2020), he achieved outstanding success, triumphing in competitions such as Coupe Mondiale, Trophy Mondiale, PIF Castelfidardo, etc.
Performing solo and in ensembles, collaborating with a wide range of musicians and orchestras, R. Ratoi performs all over the world. His performances have captivated audiences with his exceptional musicality, technique and charisma, and his transcriptions of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Ferenc Liszt and other composers who did not write for the accordion have astonished music professionals. Since 2024, Ratoi has been a soloist of the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova.
His main goal is to prove to the world that the accordion is still an underrated instrument with unlimited possibilities in all genres of music. This is evident on stage as well - even people who are already familiar with Ratoi's style are always amazed by his playing and his ability to feel the accordion.
