Two distinguished Ukrainian musicians, currently living in Lithuania, present a new programme of works for solo violin and violin with piano. In gratitude to Lithuania, which has given them refuge, they present works by Lithuanian and Ukrainian composers.
Most of the programme consists of music by 20th century composers. Thus, the performers have mastered the performance techniques characteristic of today's music, and are sensitive to the national spirit and folk music echoes in the compositions.
In "Fantasia" for violin solo, the Ukrainian Andriy Stogarenko is able to perfectly combine 20th century musical techniques, which pose additional difficulties for the performers of the piece, with the intonations of Ukrainian folklore. But most importantly, all the technical intricacies are designed to reveal the national spirit.
Vytautas Barkauskas is one of the most prominent Lithuanian composers, particularly famous for his chamber music for ensembles of various sizes. His work combines contemporary compositional techniques with neoclassical tendencies (clear construction, transparency) and polyphonic principles.
Viktor Kosenko, who wrote a violin sonata, entered Ukrainian music culture primarily as a master of lyrical works. His work is filled with the romantic intonations of folk songs.
