The Organum Concert Hall announces the Song Art Festival. This international forum for singers and pianists opens up the centuries-old genre of art song. Vocal chamber music and its wide and varied repertoire has attracted exceptional interest from singers, pianists, composers, arts managers and the general public around the world.
The festival focuses on the work of the 19th century Romantics, as well as on modern Lithuanian music from the inter-war period and the contemporary music of the 20th and 21st centuries. The German Lied, the French mélodie, the Slavic romance, the Scottish ballad, the Lithuanian song, the small vocal forms of neighbouring Latvians, Poles, Scandinavians and other nations are the most valuable heritage of musical and poetic thought.
The festival reveals the thematic and stylistic diversity of the song genre: a two-part Lithuanian programme, a classical German Lied programme, an evening of Ukrainian Romance, a French programme and two conceptual recitals marking new trends and the limitless possibilities of nurturing artistic song.
The concerts of the Festival will feature singers and pianists from a wide range of disciplines, working and composing in the fields of opera, chamber and early music. Their professional backgrounds differ, but their songs reveal their artistic personality and stage charm. We hope that the Art of Song will become a part of the cultural life of Vilnius, and that the festival will be welcomed and attended by our esteemed audiences.
