Z. is a representative of neofolklorism and neoclassicism. The compositional style is characterized by rich melody, based on Ukrainian folklore sources, combined with the most modern means of musical thinking and original instrumentation, free operation of the character techniques of musical styles of different eras, a tendency to theatricalization. The emotional palette of works is rich and colorful - from deep drama to outright mischief. He continues the traditions of B. Lyatoshynsky, M. Skoryk, E. Stankovych. In choral works that require virtuoso technique and specific vocals, he interprets the parts as orchestral (e.g., "Concerto strumentale", 1993). The author of numerous compositions for folk instruments, the first in Ukraine to begin writing for them in the musical language of the 20th century, enriched the accordion repertoire with bright concertos. works, including “Rossiniana” (1992–2000) and “Dedication to Astor Piazzolla” (1997); bandur. – “Madrigal”, “Serenade”, Sonata in Memory of K. Myaskov, etc. He collaborated with many musicians of the world. At the request of the conductor of the Lyon. Institute of Music and Dance (France) S. Clement wrote “Sinfonia robusta” for bayan and large symphony orchestra (1987), for the orchestra “Virtuosi of Rome” – “Rossiniana”, for the Italian trio of bayanists “Vladislav Zolotarev” – sonata “Fatum”, arranged his own “Carpathian Suite” and 3 pieces by J. Ligeti. Z.’s works are performed by Ukrainian and foreign musicians, in particular K. Yakomucci (Japan), C. Chiakiaretta (Italy) and others. His pieces are mandatory at international accordion competitions, and his choral compositions are in the repertoires of most Ukrainian ensembles. Z. is a frequent guest of the festivals “Kyiv-Music-Fest” and “Musical Premieres of the Season” (Kyiv). In 2004, a separate concert of the festival “Zolotovekhiy Kyiv” was dedicated to Z.’s choral work, where the premiere performance of his spiritual works – the prayer “To the Heavenly King” and the psalm “I Love the Lord” – took place. The film “The Fourth Wave” (2008, directed by V. Melnikova, National Cinematography of Ukraine) was made about Z.
