"The Little Prince is a fairy tale by the French aviator and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry that has become a true classic of children's literature (and not only for children!). Written in 1943, the story of a boy from a dwarf asteroid who travels across the universe and meets its strangest inhabitants, touches on the themes of loneliness, friendship, love and loss, which are relevant to everyone and always have been, in a sensitive and playful way.
A very beautiful and very whimsical rose grows on the little prince's planet. Unable to bond with her, the little prince leaves home. On his journey through the asteroids, he encounters a lonely king, an idler, a lantern maker, a geographer and other lonely oddballs, but none of them befriends the prince. The Prince cannot forget his own rose, and it is only a wise fox he meets on planet Earth that helps him understand why the rose he left on asteroid B-612 is so precious to him. "People have forgotten this truth," the fox says. - But you don't forget: you are forever responsible for the one you tame."
The children's performance based on the chrestomatical work by A. de Saint-Exupéry is directed by the young artist Kotryna Siaurusaitytė, who has recently graduated from the directing studies of the great genius of Lithuanian theatre, Eimuntas Nekrošius, and who has already introduced herself to the audience of the Miltinis Theatre with the performance "Pašnekesiai moonlit night" based on the stories by V. Šukšinas.
"I was drawn in by the enchanting story of loneliness, friendship, love and truth. "The Little Prince rejects the restrictive realism of the adult world - everything is based on a child's imagination and fantasy. The story is like a bird's-eye view of humanity. And especially those innocents whose life consists of flight and unsuccessful love, of those who fall to Earth, do not enjoy what they find here, and finally disappear without a trace," says K. Siaurusaitytė, the director of the performance.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
