The performance of the Warsaw National Theater "Tuoktuvės" is the last production of the Master of Lithuanian Theater Eimuntas Nekrošias, based on the play of the same name by Witold Gombrowicz, called one of the most significant and complex plays of the 20th century. works of Polish drama.
Where to look for a new beginning in the ruins of the old world order? What do we face in life: with other people or with our own image? Does our world create itself among us? And if so, where does "so much noise" come from when we are with others?
20th century "The Weddings" by W. Gombrowicz, a gem of the new Polish dramaturgy of the middle of the year, is a poetic treatise about the creation of the world from nothing, from the void. The main character of the play, Henrik, confronts both himself and the images that emerge from the darkness surrounding Gombrowicz's "people's church", a destroyed world that we must rebuild after the war. But it remains unclear whether the action of "The Wedding" takes place in reality, or whether it is just Henrik's dream.
E. Nekrošius's production of "Weddings" is the director's second major work at the Warsaw National Theater (Teatr Narodowy) after 2016. built by Adam Mickevičius "Vēlinii". Bright stars of Polish theater and cinema play the main roles in the play. According to Polish theater critics, Witold Gombrowicz's Weddings is an artistic challenge. It is a multi-layered work, full of ambiguous literary references and cultural tropes, which are best understood by the Polish soul. Meanwhile, the Northeast wind brought us an artist with exceptional sensitivity to all the nuances of the landscape, which many other creators perceive as the complexes of our nation. […] His stage interpretations can be argued with, but it is impossible not to notice them. E. Nekrošius got us used to the fact that his performances always evoke emotions. And in the case of "The Wedding" at the National Theatre, it is exceptionally positive."
