in 1972 The Devil's Bride was created by Vyacheslav Ganelin - the first Lithuanian musical. The basis of its plot was Kazios Boruta's short story "Baltaragio's Mill" - one of the most famous love stories in 20th century Lithuanian literature. This short story also inspired the 1973 creators of the first Lithuanian musical movie "Velnio nuotaka" (dir. Arūnas Žebriūnas) that reached the screens. The music created for this film by the composer and pianist V. Ganelin still sounds on the stage today, without losing the attention of the listeners who grew up with it and winning over the sympathies of the younger generation.
in 2012 Kęstutis S. Jakštas, the director of the "Devil's Bride" production created at the Klaipėda State Music Theater, said that this production reveals the Lithuanian folk code - "how we know how to have fun, laugh at ourselves and others, ironize, passionately love and hate, fight for our happiness even when the battle is lost, in other words, to live full-bloodedly and believe." The eternal struggle between good and evil, the tragicomic search for happiness of the heroes of the musical, woven into the melodious and sensual musical composition of V. Ganelin, excites and invites you to immerse yourself again and again in the mythologized mirage of the "Devil's Bride".
