During more than three centuries of the history of the piano instrument, its repertoire has become one of the most extensive. The size of the piano's repertoire is equal to that of much earlier instruments such as the violin and flute, or even the symphony orchestra. The piano repertoire can thus be described as a phenomenon of music performance, which not only has its own history and development, but also an inner life that is not always clearly visible and audible to music-loving listeners. In the concert programme "Reflections" by pianist MARIA MIROVSKA, the selected works are interconnected and reflected in each other, allowing listeners to draw invisible bridges and paths between epochs and genres in their imagination.
The narrative of the programme begins with Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) "Moonlight" Sonata, which has repeatedly inspired later generations of composers to reflect on the spirit of this sonata and to mirror it in their own work. You will hear the aforementioned van Beethoven sonata followed by Zita Bružaitė's BeMoon, a reminiscence and reflection on the music of van Beethoven. The programme continues with the music of Franz Schubert (1797-1828), one of the founders of the impromptu genre. Schubert wrote several collections of impromptus during his short life. The programme "Reflections" will also feature the premiere of a work "Attire" by the cellist and composer from Ukraine Viktor Rekal, dedicated to the performer M. Mirovska and specially composed for this concert. Inspired by the best traditions of Romanticism, Balys Dvarionas's (1904-1972) Exprompt for piano recalls the motifs of Schubert's music, but in the context of a completely different, more dramatic epoch. The Little Ukrainian Suite by the Ukrainian pianist and composer Sergey Yushkevich comprises four folk songs of different character and dramaturgy, virtuosically adapted for the piano. Diana Čemerytė's miniature "Quietly" becomes a subtle culmination of the concert programme. Listening to this piece, one can imagine that one is watching flashes of stars coming from distant space, the same stars that no longer exist. The finale of the concert is a kind of antithesis of the play "Silence" - Maurice Ravel's (1875-1937) "Alborada del gracioso" from the piano cycle "Reflections" - as a joyful hymn to life and love.
This concert is an invitation to immerse yourself in the world of musical reflections, where epochs, genres and traditions merge, opening up a unique artistic dialogue between the past and the present. Reflections is not only an opportunity to hear world-class works, but also a chance to discover new connections between sounds and ideas that will enrich every listener. Pianist M. Mirovska invites you to be part of this evening's musical journey and experience unforgettable impressions. So don't miss this concert of art, time and feelings.
