The exhibition Last Tale focuses on the phenomenon of the fairy tale and the manifestations of this genre in contemporary art. As the curators of the exhibition say, "LOOK!" Gallery curator Raivis Alksnis and independent curator Elīna Sproģe, artists Aleksandrs Breže, Jānis Dzirnieks, Karlīna Mežecka, Ieva Putniņa, Zīle Ziemel and Līga Sprunde have been invited to create a narrative that will take the visitor back to their childhood days. The exhibition will highlight the value of remembering the often banal insight that to reach the shining castle you have to walk through a dark and scary forest, and that goodness always wins. According to the curators, the exhibition will explore how the ability to imagine fantastic events and to communicate in characters and symbols can be used as a tool to explain today's phenomena and to increase empathy. Fairy tales in the Baltic region share a certain common identity, both in terms of storytelling and illustration style. Against the backdrop of global turmoil, this genre may be one of the last refuges in which much-needed aspects of solace can still be found. We tend to forget that fairy tales can be a refuge not only for children but also for adults. They remind us of the importance of imagining ourselves in the "other's shoes", of having compassion and believing that kindness will always be rewarded.
