Folklore Day is a rare opportunity for audiences to get to know the peculiarities of Lithuania's regions in detail. 6000 Folklore Day performers will come to Vilnius Old Town to present the Lithuanian regions of Aukštaitija, Žemaitija, Suvalkija, Dzūkija and Lithuania Minor.
The programme of the Folklore Day proclaims that the most important message of our inherited culture is that the world is holy. Sacredness permeates all that is visible and invisible, that grows, grows, flourishes and disappears, that is, was and will be. It is a fundamental feature of the old worldview, which determined the human way of being in the world and of relating to the environment. Thus, a person who understands the world and himself is educated to respect and preserve the environment around him, to use the goods and resources provided no more than necessary, to look for ways to live, to survive, to feel the meaning of existence and to be happy.
The magical formula of the short story by Kazis Sajos - rasoj rasoj rasi, rasi rasoj rasi... - chosen to name the programmes, will invite to look for the essence and will provide hope to find it. Rasa is one of the most beautiful, vivid symbols of the sacredness, aliveness, chastity, rhyme and essence of the world. It has multiple, magical and supernatural qualities in Lithuanian and many world cultures.
Participants of the Folklore Day - the best folklore singers, musicians, storytellers, masters of traditional folk crafts, other ethnic culture and intangible cultural heritage tradition promoters - will reveal the meanings and beauties of the heritage of their lands in the Bernardinai Garden, the territory of the Castles, the Cathedral Square, and in other places in Vilnius, and the beginning and the end of the day's events, ritualistic and inclusive accents will help create a Celebration.
