G. Verdi's opera MACBETH was staged in Kaunas for the first time. In this psychological and deeply mystical musical version of W.Shakespeare's drama, the part of Macbeth is sung by Belarusian baritone Stanislav Trifonov, already familiar to Kaunas, Lithuanians Dainius Stumbras and young generation baritone Paulius Bagdonas, the part of Lady Macbeth by theater prima donnas Gitana Pečkytė and Raminta Vaicekauskaitė, other parts by theater soloists. The director of the opera, Professor Gintautas Želvys of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, presented an intriguing spectacle, but not too far from the traditional image. Conductors Jonas Janulevičius and Julius Geniušas testify that this is an extremely complex work that basically tests the creative powers of the artistic team. The mysterious stage color of the tragedy was created by the young Russian artist Taisija Chiža.
According to the theater manager B. Želvis, the choice to include this opera by G. Verdi in the theater repertoire was determined by one of the most important creative factors in theater troupes - the soloists G. Pečkytė and R. Vaicekauskaitė, who have acquired mature, solid experience and deep acting skills, sing here. Opera music lovers gave the highest marks to the part of Lucia they prepared and sang in G. Donizetti's opera, as well as the duo's Rozins (Barber of Seville), Violetas (La Traviata), Mrs. Flute (Windsor Wits), and an impressive array of leading roles in operettas. And it is the part of Lady Macbeth that is often a desperate challenge for the troupe if they want to realize this opera by G. Verdi. In opera, the chorus has a complex and huge dramatic and directing burden, it is simply another significant collective character, and the current collective of choristers is capable and able to take on such complex works.
The performance received great attention from music lovers and opera professionals. The performer of the main role - Lady Macbeth - Gitana Pečkytė won the Kaunas theatrical award "Fortūnos 2020".
