Marius Repšys' poems reflect the mood that the actor and musician, together with pianist Joris Sodeika and soprano Karolina Glinskaite, are trying to convey to the audience of the theatrical concert "From Darkness to Light". The artists will delve into the darkest depths of the soul, but even in the thickest darkness they will find a burst of light that fills the soul with kindness and peace.
Marius Repšys - one of the most famous Lithuanian theatre and film actors, who has created many memorable roles and has received many prestigious theatre and film awards. He expresses his creativity not only in acting, but also in music. Music, like theatre, occupies an important place in Marius' life. He has been seen playing the piano on stage many times, has tried the saxophone, and has appeared as a performer and songwriter many times with the band "Basas Pegasas", but this time he will be presenting music and poems he has composed himself in a different way.
Joris Sodeika - a pianist, who is not shy of trying out various different styles of playing the piano. Whether on the theatre stage, improvising in unexpected spaces, at prestigious piano competitions or in a stylised 19th century music salon, he is not to be overlooked. This charismatic performer is characterised by versatility and the spirit of an adventurer.
Soprano Karolina Glinskaitė boldly takes on creative challenges and implements them with her characteristic stage presence, character and musical sensitivity. Karolina learned vocal skills from the grand tenor of the opera, Prof. V. Noreika, and had a long period of study in Italy. Karolina's flexibility as a classical performer, her ability to adapt to every genre and musical idea of every project she participates in, is astonishing. Karolina's voice can be heard on Lithuanian and foreign stages, and her performances range from classical music to electronic opera, jazz and baroque fusion, and theatrical concerts, such as this one, created together with fellow artists, where Karolina not only sings but also reads her own poems.
The creators share their experience and spiritual experiences through their own music, poetry and improvisation.
Their work invites us to ascend towards the light, where hope and faith reign, where there is an inexorable desire to live in peace, where a sanctuary of knowledge emerges. The title of the concert "From Darkness to Light" symbolises the flower, the lotus, the lily, which from the mud, the swamp, seeks the sun, i.e. the higher knowledge, God. Most of us live in a dark period, perhaps even in darkness. But there is always a way out. Just turn, like a plant, a flower, a tree, to where it is light. I think we need to strive for the knowledge that everyone can find if they want to. After all, all things have their own nature, their own purpose, and as you use them, so they will serve you. The same thing happens with the human Spirit. If you give the Spirit a higher nourishment, your words, thoughts and actions will be accordingly," Marius Repšys shares his thoughts on the creative idea.
