Event description
Programme:
Vocal and chamber works by Giedrius Kuprevičius, Zita Bružaitė, Šarūnas Nakas, Antanas Jasenka
National Prize-winning composer Giedrius Kuprevičius celebrates his 80th anniversary this year. "In our encounters with works of art, we are very often satisfied with the result expressed in them. However, we almost never think about the reasons that led the artists to take up this or that theme, content, anxiety. This is the case in all areas of our lives - the results are more often analysed, commented on and discussed than the reasons behind them. So I invite you to look at phenomena not only with the eye or ear that sees the consequences, but to find the time and the will to investigate them as the result of a process, a state of being, a motive, an idea. Without understanding the origins and conditions of the results, it is impossible to fully understand the work of art and to have a complete emotional experience. And if we learn to look more deeply at the phenomena of the art world, maybe we will transfer some of these abilities to our own lives and activities - look, it will become clearer and maybe at least a little brighter", - the composer himself says about the reasons for creative manifestations.
In this concert programme, the performers will take a deeper look at the chamber music of Kuprevičius by having a live discussion with the composer himself. The audience will meet Kuprevičius' opuses for baritone and piano trio, soprano and piano, violin and cello, have a witty discussion with the composer, who has been described as a "cautious radical", and will be treated to a host of surprises by his fellow composers Zita Bružaitė, Šarūnas Nakas and Antanas Jasenka.
