The exhibition is dedicated to the contemporary phenomenon of workhouses and will tell the story of their most prominent pioneer in Lithuania - President Antanas Smetona. The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of accompanying events to expand the narrative. As a hard-working man in fragile health, Antanas Smetona was forced to combine work and leisure. His holidays can be called "working holidays", which are increasingly popular today. Quarantine and technology, which allows us to communicate from anywhere in the world, have dictated this way of combining work and rest. Meanwhile, President Smetona's holidays became a significant national event and a highlight in the life of Palanga as a holiday capital. Ministers and other civil servants, as well as the elite of science and culture, followed the President to Palanga for holidays. Smetona's holidays were different, as state affairs followed close behind. The agenda included official meetings with the inhabitants and civil servants of the towns and cities of Samogitia and Klaipėda Region. The Prime Minister, ministers and meetings of the Council of Ministers were convened in Palanga when necessary. Diplomats, artists and businessmen visited the villa "Baltoji" near the beach, which was rented by the President's Office for holidays, to discuss important issues of national importance.
